Denim Marketing has been involved in the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association’s (GAHBA) Sales and Marketing Council (SMC) for years. Currently, Denim Marketing Account Manager Mandy Holm serves on the SMC Board. She follows in the footsteps of several team members who have given back by serving on the council over the years. In fact, Denim Marketing President Carol Morgan served on the SMC Board for eight years, including serving as the 2012 Chair. Getting involved in a council is a great way to give back to the industry, but it is also a fantastic way to make life-long industry friends.

The Atlanta SMC was established in 1980 to enhance the sales and marketing capabilities and reputation of those who represent the GAHBA. SMC is dedicated to developing a higher level of professionalism in general membership through education and the exchange of ideas. SMC is dedicated to promoting education, programs, membership, awards and charity.

We asked Mandy several questions about her experience with SMC and its plans for the year.

Q: What is your position on the board?
A: I’m a Board Member with a two-year term (2018-2020)

Q: What are SMC’s goals for this year?
A: We have several goals. We plan to increase overall SMC membership by offering a wide variety of programs and networking events. We are focused on getting more OBIE entries this year over last and we want to earn more money this year than last year through our Silent Auction event for HomeAid Atlanta

Q: What are you excited about?
A: SMC events are always my favorite, so I am really excited to be involved as a board member. I love being a part of the planning process for so many exciting educational opportunities and events! Our next networking event will be held at one of the Atlanta area’s popular ax-throwing venues.

Q: What can people reading this blog help you with?
A: We recently announced this year’s OBIE Awards will be at a new, exciting venue: the Georgia Aquarium! This new venue presents some exciting sponsorship opportunities – including underwater advertising! Talk about a photo op! The OBIE Awards are the GAHBA’s biggest event of the year, meaning sponsorship dollars go a long way. Q: Why did you decide to run for this position/ volunteer for this position?
A: Since I loved attending SMC events so much, I got to know a lot of SMC members and wanted to be more involved. Joining the board seemed like the obvious next step!

Q: What else do you want us to know?
A: Whether you join Atlanta SMC or another one of the amazing councils under the GAHBA, get involved! Councils offer so many opportunities to network, grow and learn, and becoming a member of one (or two, or three) councils is an excellent place to start.
